  SoulTaker...
is a very strange and surreal anime. At first hard to follow, it is filled with artistic experimental cinematography and I consider it art, if not one of the better anime titles around. The story gets thickened up after the second DVD, and you get a sense of what's going on if not the full picture. Here's the official pioneer sight; and here is Komugi's site (she's a wonderful character thast got her own comedy spin off, although it's hard to reconcile the two anime - I suggest you watch SoulTaker before picking up Nurse Witch Komugi!).

  My Neighbor Totoro...
is a great story about a family who moves to the countryside to be closer to the hospital the mother is in. Nearby, a group of magical creatures live and amaze the two children of the family. It is an agreable anime for the whole family; even your two year old will be enthralled.

It's also created by Hayao Miyazaki, best known in American for the movie anime Spirited Away.

  Tenchi Muyo! GXP...
Finished this series and I have to tell you it kept me in stiches. It's a hilarious harem type anime, with the "goofy guy" having the added bonus of being the most unlucky guy in the galaxy. It started out pretty lame (you really end up disliking Seina in the beginning, then you feel sorry for him, then you say "What?!?" with envy!

If you haven't seen the other Tenchi Muyo fair, don't fret; this anime stands up on it's own clumsy feet!

Check out the website!

  Stellvia
is a newly released show involving high school students studying to be pilots in a high tech post apocalyptic earth orbiting space station. It has just the right amount of angst with plenty of campy teen giddyness (at least Japanese teen giddiness!) Do American teenagers get giddy anymore? Anyway the first two DVDs are out with the remainder being released throughout 2005. Check it out!

  Evangelion...
I have completed the fourth disk in the Neon Genesis Evangelion Platinum Edition series. It end at the episode entitled The Fourth Child. What I want to say about this series is that it struck me as the most human of the anime that I've seen so far. I can relate to the characters so much more in this series than, say, Kaleido Star or even Vampire Princess Miyu (I know, I know it sounds odd, but i'm struggling with semantics here!).

This is the genius of anime. From an American viewpoint, you take the best soap operam or TV drama you can find. Now animate it. Then take the best of Science Fiction elements and intertwine them with the story, and there you have it. I think i have come close to expresing why I enjoy anime so much by just describing what it is like to me.

I recommned this series; if you can't wait the first release (8 DVDs in a boxed set) are available or you can get the first four of the Platinum set and wait out the rest as I am doing. Both are distributed by ADV Films. Here is the site from Japan.

  Music...
It is rare that you find an anime theme song sung entirely in english. It's even rarer when that song moves you. This one, Unseen Ties - Everlasting Love, sung by SeYun did it for me. You really have to here it to appreciate it. It was used for the final ending song of the Aquarian Age - Sign of Evolution. Here's the lyrics, which I had to change a bit to get some proper context out of:

Lying in your arms
I feel so calm
I’m falling deeper into you
To a world of moonlit wonder
A place that we can call our own

As I close my eyes
My spirit flies
I’m soaring higher every moment
Through the clouds toward tomorrow
I’m not feeling gravity, oh

Open up your heart and feel the joy around us
Everything’s a new beginning…

There’s an everlasting flame
A flame that never dies
It will burn
It will shine
Eternally,
For you and me

Until the end of time
It’s an everlasting love…

Sweet, huh? The only changes made were 1) wonder for water, and 2) feeling for heavy(?). A soundtrack album is available here.

  Kiddy Grade...
Another recommended anime. I think i'm one to get over emotional due to the tragedies i have encountered in life, so it is not at all surprising that I got all teary eyed during the final episode. Shouldn't a great anime get you all emotional?
Check this series out if you can...I hope to be able to post more on this series later.

  Popotan 2...
This is the second post on this show. I earlier mentioned that this anime has an abundance of fanservice, and I reiterate - it has lots of fanservice! The story is really quite adorable as we follow each the household members on a heartfelt journey with each of the four episodes on the first volume (DVD). I recommend this title once again. The fanservice is really quite innocent as long as you can handle such.

  Burn Up! Scramble...
Well, we just finished Burn Up! Scramble Volume one on DVD. It was not at all what I expected. Even thought they totally changed the characters from the original series (I mean took the original characters and revamped them) they did a pretty damn good job pulling it off. I will give them the benefit of the doubt, due to Rio still being rather close to the original mold! Live for today and max out those credit cards!!

Three ladies of the police force comprise a special unit called Warrior. They are called to handle to tough cases that the regular police can't. Each has some quircks of their own, which makes for the great comic relief in the show.

If you liked the previous series for the fanservice, this edition will not disappoint. I enjoy the action, but there is less teamwork so far than was in other series. Check it out if you like cop shows set in the near future and lots of action/comedy. Here's the site, Burn Up! Scramble...Be warned; it's just a banner with some music at this time. Hopefully they will add more soon.
